  17. Section 1 - What is Datafit/Viewplot?
  18.  
  19. Datafit is an an Engineering tool which is useful for generating
  20. functional equations and FFT calculations for tabular sampled
  21. data.  It allows the user to import the data from a tab, comma, or space
  22. delimited file or enter it through a built in editor.  For curve fitting, 
  23. Cubic Splines and Least Squares techniques are used. The equation 
  24. coefficients and calculated vs. entered data can be displayed and printed 
  25. in tabular format.  Statistics, such as correlation between entered and 
  26. calculated data, are also calculated. Once equation coefficients are 
  27. determined, the program can generate subroutine source code (Basic and C) 
  28. which can readily be compiled and used to interpolate the data in user 
  29. written programs.  FFT calculations can be done on the entered data directly, 
  30. or can be first spline fitted to allow a faster sampling rate.  The FFT
  31. magnitude and phase calculations can also be displayed and printed in
  32. tabular format. In addition, output from this program for both the curve
  33. fitting functions and FFT calculations can be fed into Viewplot and the
  34. results can be viewed and compared graphically.

  36. Viewplot is an Engineering tool which is useful for plotting raw data, or
  37. functional equations and FFT calculations generated by the program Datafit. 
  38. It can be used stand-alone, or launched from within Datafit once the programs 
  39. have been registered.  It has the ability to plot multiple curves from one 
  40. or more datasets and display them in the same or separate windows
  41. simultaneously.  Plots can be customized by formatting legends, numerical
  42. scaling, line colors, line styles and axis/title labels and fonts.  The plots 
  43. can be saved, printed or copied to the Windows clipboard for pasting into 
  44. other applications.

  46. Section 2 - Machine Requirements
  47.  
  48. Datafit/Viewplot version 2.2 is supported on Windows 3.1, Windows '95, 
  49. and Windows NT version 3.51.  The memory requirement is that you have
  50. enough to run Windows or Windows NT.  If you are pushing your machine
  51. to the limit with just the operating system, make sure you have virtual
  52. memory (swap space) allocated.  The programs now support all windows
  53. supported video resolutions.

  55. Section 3 - Distribution and License Information
  56.  
  57. The software is being distributed as Shareware.  You may evaluate
  58. it free of charge for 15 days. If, after the 15 day evaluation period, 
  59. you choose to continue using the software, you must register it.  
  60. Register your copy of Datafit/Viewplot by selecting "Complete 
  61. Registration Form" in the Registration Information panel from either
  62. program, or double-click the "Register" icon. You only need to complete 
  63. one form. Follow the instructions shown to you in the registration panels.  
  64. This program relies on your support for continued development, 
  65. and single user registration is only $30.00. This price covers the use of 
  66. both programs. When you register Datafit/Viewplot, you will receive 
  67. a code that enables additional features and you will become eligible for 
  68. priority support. You will also be able to obtain free updates of the 
  69. programs through our Web page (address below) with which you can use your 
  70. current registration code, until the next major release.

  72. To register copies of Datafit/Viewplot please use the "Register" program 
  73. provided with Datafit/Viewplot to make payments. We use KAGI Shareware 
  74. registration service, which accepts different payment methods, including 
  75. credit card and invoices. If you live in the US or Canada you may also 
  76. mail us your check or money order directly, payable to John A. Gilmore,

  84. Once we receive the form, you will receive a confirmation letter which 
  85. will include your registration number and license agreement.  Once you 
  86. have received a registration number, you may permanently enter it by 
  87. selecting "Enter Registration" from the registration information panel.  
  88. Be sure to enter your name EXACTLY how it is spelled on the confirmation 
  89. letter. If you have any problems entering your registration number, please 
  90. contact technical support. For more information about registering the 
  91. software, see "Obtaining a License for Datafit/Viewplot" in the online help.

  93. Distribution is permitted provided you follow these instructions:  You are 
  94. free to make copies of the distribution archive (DTAFITxx.ZIP) and pass 
  95. it along to others for evaluation provided that no modifications or 
  96. additions are made to the software, its documentation, or any associated 
  97. files.

  103. Section 4 - Automatic Installation using SETUP.EXE
  104.  
  105. To automatically install Datafit/Viewplot for Windows on your hard drive:
  106.  
  107. 1. If you have received the software from an archive in the form of a .ZIP 
  108.    file, copy the contents of the archive to a temporary directory and unzip
  109.    the files. Copy the unzipped files to a floppy disk to keep as a backup.
  110.    If you have received the software on a floppy disk directly from
  111.    Engineered Software, the files will already be unzipped.

  113. 2. Place the disk in a floppy drive of your computer if you are installing 
  114.    from the floppy disk.
  115.  
  116. 3. Open the File menu of the Windows program manager (if you are running
  117.    Windows 3.1 or Windows NT) and select Run, or click on the "Start" button
  118.    and select Run... (if you are running Windows '95).
  119.  
  120. 4. In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP or B:SETUP, depending on the  
  121.    drive used.
  122.  
  123. 5. The Setup application will prompt you for additional information as 
  124.    required.

  126. Section 5 - Version 2.2 and Previous Release Notes
  127.  
  128. Datafit and Viewplot Version 2.2 is a FREE upgrade for current Version 2.1 
  129. and previous users.  Not every upgrade will be free, but interim releases
  130. will be. If there is a charge for upgrades in the future, it will be somewhat
  131. less than purchasing it for the first time.  If you register the software,
  132. you will be notified of new releases.  Work is going on on a daily basis,
  133. so register the software and submit your requests.  We can't guarantee that
  134. we will honor every feature request, but we will do our best.

  138. 1.  If only notes text changes, user is prompted to save only notes text so
  139.     that solution is not deleted.

  232. 3.  The calculated Y data for Cubic Splines was corrected in the View
  233.     Equations/Statistics Panel. Previously the calculated data was 
  234.     displayed incorrectly because the solved coefficient data was
  235.     not read in as double precision.

  237. 4.  The installation program previously overwrote the datafit.ini
  238.     and viewplot.ini files in the Windows directory if the software
  239.     had already been installed. If the files already exist, they will
  240.     no longer be overwritten.

  242. 5.  Backward file compatility exists to previous versions.
  243.  
  244. 6.  If the default windows fonts Courier, Ms Sans Serif, or Arial
  245.     were not present on the users system, the user would get an error
  246.     which said "Invalid Property Value". A more descriptive error
  247.     message comes up, and the program continues with the windows system
  248.     standard font.
  249.  
  250. 7.  If the screen resolution is less than 800 x 600, a warning panel
  251.     tells the user to change his screen resolution to a minimum of
  252.     800 x 600. The software will continue, but there will not be enough
  253.     screen real estate to display the screens, hence buttons and text
  254.     may not show up.
  255.  
  256. 8.  We now accept payment of various forms. See section 3 above.

  258. 9.  Adding printing status panels.

  260. 10. The ability to display FFT calculations was added.

  262. 11. The default axis limits initialize to more 'reasonable' values
  263.     instead of fitting to max and min values.

  266.     opening or importing a new file.

  283. 2.  Added ability to export source code in C and Basic to readily include 
  284.     the solved equations in other source code.  See the section "Exporting
